Northern Line 1995 Stock Train: KENNINGTON - NINE ELMS

Описание: A journey on board the new Northern Line extension from Kennington Station, where the two city branches meet in the south, before now splitting into the two southern branches to Morden and Battersea Power Station. The train uses the Kennington Loop, a section of track used to turn terminating trains around, and then comes off it down a new branch to Nine Elms Station, one of two new tube stations that opened on the same day.

Kennington Station is the most recent station to change fare zones from 2 to 1/2 in preparation of the new extension, which was controversially placed solely in Zone 1, even though it's more south than Vauxhall Station on the Victoria Line which is in 1/2, causing it to also mess with the design of the tube map.

It's interesting to travel on this journey as you go from the super old Kennington Station, one of the oldest underground stations in the world as it was once situated on the City and South London Railway - the world's first deep level electric railway, to the super modern Nine Elms Station, hearing the mismatch of old and new recorded announcements.

The sign at Nine Elms Station suggests that at Battersea Power Station you can change for riverboat services, London Overground and National Rail, despite the fact that the tube map showed none of these interchanges when first put on there upon opening. The riverboat connection was added in the next edition, but not the London Overground, which would be odd to anyways, as its an extremely limited two a day service to nearby Battersea Park Station, a station not even on the tube map, nor National Rail, which doesn't exactly have an excuse for why its not shown.

It is good to see that the extension was getting good usage, even though I was surprised that every second train was still terminating at Kennington Station and not going down the extension to Battersea Power Station Station, a controversial name, but makes sense when you consider that the power station itself had recently opened as a popular shopping destination.
