Kusumgar is a technical textiles company launching a ₹650 crore Initial Public Offering (IPO). The company manufactures high-performance fabrics used in defence, aerospace, automotive, and industrial applications, including products such as military parachutes, bulletproof jackets, tents, and other specialized protective fabrics.
One of Kusumgar's biggest competitive advantages is its long-standing customer relationships. Supplying to defence organizations requires rigorous approvals that can take 2 to 10 years, creating high entry barriers for new competitors. Once approved, customers typically do not switch suppliers easily, giving the company a strong competitive position.
A key point for investors is that the IPO is a 100% Offer for Sale (OFS). This means the company will not receive any fresh capital from the issue. Instead, existing promoters are selling part of their stake, and the proceeds will go entirely to them. The listing mainly provides liquidity and enables public trading of the company's shares.
After the IPO, Kusumgar will have an estimated valuation of ₹4,399 crore and will trade at a Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio of 44.8x, which is slightly higher than many of its peers. However, the company stands out with an EBITDA margin of 27.15% and a Return on Equity (RoE) of 25.82%, indicating strong profitability and efficient use of shareholders' capital.
On the positive side, the company enjoys high profit margins and a rapidly growing export business. Exports contributed around 40% of FY26 revenue, compared to 23% in the previous year, reflecting increasing international demand.
However, investors should also consider the risks. Kusumgar depends heavily on a limited number of large customers, making revenue vulnerable if any major client is lost. The company also has a high working capital cycle, meaning cash remains tied up for longer due to delayed customer payments. Additionally, all its manufacturing facilities are located in Gujarat, so any regional disruption could impact production.
Overall, Kusumgar appears to be a quality niche business with strong financial metrics, but its premium valuation and operational risks should be carefully evaluated before investing.
