Описание: If you were at home during the morning hours of Thursday, April 22, 1971, and were in the greater New York City area as I was, here is what you would have found in turning on your TV set. With Paul Newman on the cover of TV Guide that week, the morning hours in the spring of 1971 were largely a place of children’s programming drawing back to the 1930s and ’40s for much of its fare, and reruns from primetime family programs of the late 1950s and 1960s. It wasn’t until after noon that new programming began with the soap operas. Using my reel-to-reel taperecorder, I taped audio consisting of program themes and other snippets that morning into the early afternoon.
8 a.m. “Captain Kangaroo's Treasure House” (WCBS).
9-10 a.m. This was local programming. WCBS, WABC, WNBC, WPIX, WNEW and WOR filled this time slot with cartoons, old film shorts and discontinued TV shows. Heard are bits of “The Little Rascals,” “Popeye the Sailor Man,” “Porky Pig,” “Underdog,” a “Palisades Amusement Park” commercial (a staple of New York TV “…so come on over”), “Dennis The Menace,” “Huckleberry Hound” and “The Donna Reed Show.”
10 a.m. “The Lucy Show” (WCBS).
10:30 a.m. “The Beverly Hillbillies” (WCBS).
A “Pepsi Generation” commercial.
11 a.m. “Family Affair” (WCBS).
11:30 a.m. “That Girl” (WABC).
12 noon “Bewitched” (WABC)
12:25 p.m. “The CBS Mid-Day News with Douglas Edwards” (WCBS).
12:30 p.m. “Search For Tomorrow” (WCBS).
1 p.m. "All My Children" (WABC)
