Ayutthaya, Thailand is a World Heritage Site but few of its many visitors will have seen steam power in use in this rice mill in 2006. The tandem compound stationary steam engine is locally manufactured.
The rice passes through a huller to strip the husks which will be used to fire the boiler. After separation in a series of trays, the production rice is polished. The full grains will be sold directly and the broken bits used for such products as rice noodles.
I am sure this engine will no longer be in use but I have had no reports.
