Most were folks from India who worked in the UAE, coming from different Indian regions like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Punjab. The worry was they might try sneaky ways to reach the US or Canada through Central America. This sneaky journey's called the 'donkey route,' where people try illegal crossings through various countries. Sadly, many face danger or even lose their lives trying. Coincidentally, this happened around the time when Shahrukh Khan's movie 'Dunki,' which talks about such stories, was out.

The passengers had to stay in the airport for days for questioning. Indian authorities sent a team to look into this suspected trafficking but found it was more about illegal immigration. Two passengers got held by the police for suspicion of helping with illegal immigration. The rest were stuck at the airport, given basic facilities. Eventually, makeshift court hearings took place at the airport. Though the judges said the process was all mixed up, they let the plane leave on Christmas after clearing some paperwork. However, 25 passengers, including kids, didn't want to go to Nicaragua and stayed in France, wanting asylum. The plane finally reached Mumbai with fewer passengers. These folks might face more questions from the immigration authorities in India. It's not certain how and when they'll reach their home states. The airline denied any trafficking involvement, saying they relied on another company to check passengers' documents before the flight. The whole situation left many questions unanswered, like why the plane went to Mumbai instead of Nicaragua and if no crime was confirmed before the plane left.
