Описание: "Rondo amoroso" is the seventh and final piece in the collection Seven light pieces for piano, opus 14 from 1939. Sæverud dedicated the piece to his mother, as an excuse for "all his fox strokes". [1] Sæverud's children called the composition "Sad". Sæverud himself gave it the nickname «Wild flowers on a children's grave». [1]

According to the composer, the piece was created through a dialogue between himself and his son Sveinung, who in 1939 was four years old. Sæverud sat and played with a mournful melody on the piano while Sveinung sat on the floor and listened. Then Sveinung asks: "Are you a sad father?" "Yes, I'm sad," the father replies. "Is it because Sveinung has torn (torn the newspapers)?" asked the son guiltily. "Yes, that's why," the father replies, playing the mournful melody again. "I will not tear any more," says the son, and the father switches to a new and brighter melody. This is how the composition continued to grow through the dialogue between father and son. [2] Sæverud later stated that he himself had never managed to write the piece, but that "a child had found the key to [his] 'melodic hide'" [3]

Sæverud may also have taken inspiration for the composition from the birdsong to the yellow sparrow. The melody starts with a note that is repeated eleven times. This can be found in the wheelbarrows of the little bird, who was a diligent guest at Siljustøl: [3]
