Some Information in short
The Salaulim Dam is built on the Guleli River, a tributary of the Zuari River, in South Goa, India. It is a key part of the Salaulim Irrigation Project, designed to support irrigation as well as provide drinking and industrial water to the region. The dam is a composite earth-cum-masonry structure with a height of about 42.7 metres and a reservoir spread covering nearly 24 square kilometres.

Originally approved in 1971, the project aimed to irrigate over 14,000 hectares of land and supply 160 million litres of water per day to South Goa. Over time, the water supply capacity was expanded to 380 million litres per day for domestic and industrial use. Construction began in 1976, and the dam was completed in 2000, with the irrigation component gradually reaching significant coverage.

Located near Xelpem village, around 5 km from Sanguem town, the dam lies within the Zuari River basin and drains a catchment area of about 227 square kilometres. It is the largest dam in Goa in terms of water storage capacity. The reservoir has a gross storage capacity of over 234 million cubic metres, with about 227 million cubic metres of usable water. One of its most striking features is the unique duckbill, or morning glory, spillway, designed to safely handle heavy flood discharge.
