One of the biggest wild tuskers of Sri Lanka called "DEEGADANTHU" roamed around Balaluwewa in north-central province of Sri Lanka just for few days during mid August and disappeared to surrounding forest again. He was appeared after 3 years and some believed that he may have victim of poachers or human-elephant conflict. He was first recorded in 2009. Happy to see some 4-5 young tuskers among rest of the herd.
Asian Elephant ( Elephas maximus ) population in Sri Lanka approximately 4000-5000 and out of only 3% -4% are tuskers. Population is ever declining due to human-elephant conflict and habitat destruction. It is listed as a endangered species by IUCN Red List ( https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/7...)
