About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to run a Minecraft server on your PC. We go over every step of hosting a server from start to finish. Let’s get started!
First things first, we will need to download the Minecraft server files. There is a link to our complete guide to making a Minecraft server above. On this page, you will see a “Download Minecraft” button. Click this to go to the official download page on Mojang’s website. There, you will see a Download “minecraft_server_version.jar” link. Save this file.
With your server files downloaded, we can make a folder on your desktop and move the server.jar file you got from Mojang’s website into this folder. Run the server.jar by double-clicking on it. As long as you have Java, linked above if you need it, some files will be generated.
One of those files will be an eula.txt file. Open this with notepad and change “eula=false” to “eula=true” and save the file. Now, when you double-click the server.jar, your server will start! You can join your server with the “localhost” IP.
If you want your friends to join your server, you will need to port forward. There is a complete guide in the description above to port forward for a Minecraft server. This guide will show you everything, but the quick version is that you need to forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. When you do that, your friends will join with your public IP.
At this point though, you now know how to host a Minecraft server on your PC in 2026. If you have any questions, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
