Come hiking with me as I summit Cold Mountain via the Art Loeb Trail in Shining Rocks Wilderness Area. Cold Mountain is on the Carolina Mountain Club's South Beyond 6000 Challenge list, which consists of 40 mountains in the Southern Appalachians that are above 6000 feet, and are either .75 miles away from, or have a drop of 200 feet between the next closest peak. The majority of the trail to Cold Mountain follows the Art Loeb Trail in North Carolina. For someone who is backpacking the entire Art Loeb Trail, it would be easy to add Cold Mountain on as a slight detour.
