It's easy to cycle the Gap of Dunloe from Killarney as there is a cycle path through the national park from the town centre that takes you to the turn off onto quieter local roads that run to the start of the gap at Kate Kearney's Cottage.
For me this was the start of a 7 day cycle tour of Kerry following Eurovelo 1 so I was cycling through the gap to the Black Valley and on via Moll's gap to Kenmare after wild camping in the valley. My route down to Kenmare was not via the National road but a far quieter local road past Lough Barfinnihy - if your staying in Killarney you can do a loop cycle by following the national road back there from Moll's Gap.

Video has full footage of the road through the Gap of Dunloe so also useful if your trying to see how difficult it is to drive - its preferred if you park at the pub and either walk, cycle or hire a jaunting car
