This race was the event’s original form — a single motorcycle race — and ran annually from 1937 to 1941.

World War II interruption: The race was canceled from 1942 to 1947 due to the war, but during those years an “unofficial” Bike Week began, drawing riders from across the U.S. and evolving into a multi‑day motorcycle gathering.
