Supplies
-sewing machine
-polo shirt
-thread
-scissors
-pins
-bias tape (optional - only needed if you are extending the length of the dress)

Step 1 - pin the shape of the dress at the side seams. you can do this by placing a dress that you already have and like the fit of, guessing and checking, or trying it on and placing the pins while you're wearing it

Step 2 - try on and adjust pins where necessary

Step 3 - cut away excess fabric (1cm outside from where you placed the pins). make sure to keep this fabric intact because you will need to create strips from it later in the project

Step 4 - let out the hem if you need to add length to your dress, then iron

Step 5 - zigzag stitch (or serge) your side seams with a 1cm seam allowance, I did 2 rows of zigzag to make sure its strong enough and then trimmed away any excess

Step 6 - try on at this stage and see if you want to make anymore adjustments to the fit. I decided to take in a little more under the arm and trim away a little fabric from the shoulders

Step 7 - trim away extra fabric on shoulders and zigzag stitch any of the areas that needed correcting (for me it was under the arms)

Step 8 - measure the circumference of the armhole and add 2cm to that measurement. cut 2 strips from your extra fabric of this length, the width should be around 3 to 4 cm

Step 9 - sew these two strips into two separate loops

Step 10 - with right sides together, sew these loops into each arm hole

Step 11 - iron this out, and fold over the fabric, placing pins in the seam and catching the fabric on the other side. sew with a straight stitch. stitching along the seam and catching the fabric on the other side (the stitch is sewn on the outside of the garment and catching the fabric on the inside of the garment)

Step 12 - even out the hem (polos are always shorter in the front so I rounded out the difference)

Step 13 - attach your bias tape to the hem (this part is only if you let out the hem for extra length, if you did not you can keep the original hem if you like !)
