In this talk given as part of a seminar on 'Living with Baba Now' in Feb., 2025 at the Avatar Meher Baba's Circle of Friends Circle Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Scott Makeig speaks about and reads from the mystical articles contributed to Meher Baba Journal (1938-41) by His disciple Princess Norina Matchabelli while she was living with Avatar Meher Baba and His disciples in India. These articles are unique - in them Meher Baba speaks to and through Norina on the mystical meaning of the approaching worldwide transformation of consciousness that Baba referred to as the coming 'awakening.' He said that His breaking His personal silence, maintained by him from July 10, 1925 through His physical death, Jan. 31, 1969, would initiate the awakening transformation that will continue to unfold until His next advent after 700 years. On His tombstone, He specified that His often-repeated caution be incised -- "I have come not to teach but to awaken."

Although He gave many hints over His more than 40 years of work in silence about the nature and significance of the awakening transformation in this unfolding new age, nowhere else did He give direct revelations about its inner nature. When Norina brought manuscripts of these articles to the Journal editors, their 'mystical language' seemed unfathomable to the other disciples editing the Meher Baba Journal at His request. Nonetheless, Baba told them to publish the manuscripts Norina submitted 'without changing one word,' saying that these articles would come to be appreciated 'in future'.

Upon her return to America in 1941, Baba asked Norina to give public and private talks about Him and His mission -- but not using the mystical language and point of view of the Journal articles. Thus, these articles were, as it were, forgotten -- hidden in plain view without attention or comment -- until quite recently. Now, some 85 years later, a small but quietly growing number of Meher Baba's followers are discovering in them not only moving writing but revelatory insight into the nature of the spiritual awakening that Meher Baba foretold "will help every individual to break himself free from his own bondage in his own way."
