Off road in ALGERIA

Описание: 15 days offroad travel with a Toyota FJ Cruiser 4x4 in southern Algeria.
From Ilizi to Djanet and through Tassili N’Ajjer.
This offroad travel took place in February and March 2020 with my trusty Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Lots of amazing scenery and driving on sand!

Equipment:
Your vehicle needs to be equipped with 4x4 and low range.
Always deflate tires in the sand to avoid getting stuck so you need a compressor. Bring as well a shovel and tow straps.
Once you reach the deep desert you need lots of fuel: I took 210 litres in jerrycans. Refueling in Illizy and Djanet is mandatory. Also take some food and water.

Logistics:
First you need to find a local Algerian which will send you an invitation to get the visa at your residence country Algerian embrassy. Get the visa at the Algerian embassy.
Then the travel starts with a ferry cruise from France or Italy to Tunisia (La Goulette): 24 hours cruise.
Once in Tunisia you drive to the Algerian boarder where you will meet your local Algerian guide. It took me about 8 hours to go through the algerian boarder from Tunisia between Tozeur and El Oued.
Also you need to buy a temporary insurance at the Algerian boarder, cost is marginal (25€ for 3 weeks).
