The followthrough is a critical aspect of the serve, by staying in contact with the ball longer, this causes the ball to travel faster and with more accuracy, the longer the force is imparted, the further, faster and more control the shot will have. Following through is letting the energy dissipate slowly, There should be a long smooth continuous arc of deceleration and a transfer of forces onto the major muscle groups of the trunk and legs.
