This is 📍Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park, Utah
We just recently returned from a fun family road trip of which the highlight was this hike. Even my kids absolutely loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park is a labyrinth of narrow sandstone canyons and towering fins, offering an adventurous hiking experience amid stunning red rock formations. Couple of things to note:
🎫This hike is a permit only hike. You can reserve yours on recreation.gov. The dates are released a week and advance. During low season (winter) it seems pretty easy to get the permit. Fee is $10 per person
✅the permits need to be picked up in person at the Arches Visitor Center either the day before or they day of the hike. Everyone in the group will need to attend an orientation before getting the permit. This is to educate about the sensitive ecosystem of this area and best ways to minimize impact to the environment.
👦Kids under 5 are not allowed on this hike
🥾the hike is rated difficult for the fact that there really isn’t a trail and you make your own path. There is a ‘recommended’ trail marked with little arrows that you can follow. This path is about 2 miles long.
🪨to find hidden arches you want to explore the ‘dead ends’ We found three ‘hidden’ arches: Surprise Arch, Skull Arch and the Kissing Turtles Arch. There are definitely more but you may need repellening equipment to find those 👀
♻️it’s super important to follow all the rules reviewed during the orientation to keep this place accessible for future generations. That means walk on rocks and washes only and avoid walking over sand dunes and/or vegetation.
Is this hike on your bucket list?
