The Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) held its CPCRN5 (in fifth funding cycle) Year 3 Virtual Winter Meeting on January 27, 2022. The one-day event saw over 150 Network members and special guests in attendance, who convened around topics related to Network impact, ongoing work, and future directions for the Network.
A major highlight of the Meeting was the the CPCRN Community Partner Panel, featuring a diverse group of expert stakeholders, each of whom works in a leadership capacity at their respective institution. With a shared and explicit primary focus on impacting health of local communities by working with said communities, panelists share personal anecdotes about their unique experiences and lessons learned from working in those settings. Panelists also offer guidance and rationale to support arguments in favor of the community-based approach, as well as insight into how those approaches translate or, alternatively, may need to be adapted to align with community-level health problems or specific conditions, including but not limited to: equity promotion/disparity reduction; cancer control; health literacy/decision-making and competence to act / advocacy for onself; COVID-19 (impact on things like mental health, resource availability, vaccine hesitancy, perceptions about other vaccines perceptions about other vaccines; etc.); cancer survivorship; social determinants of health (SDOH); and more.
