Makoto Mori, MD, PhD, is a cardiac surgeon specializing in coronary revascularization, valve surgery, and advanced heart failure therapies, including heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. He completed an integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency at Yale School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is currently an assistant professor of surgery (cardiac) at Yale School of Medicine, where he performs complex coronary, valve, and transplant operations with a focus on optimizing outcomes and driving innovation in advanced cardiac care. Dr. Mori’s academic work bridges clinical surgery and data science. He earned his PhD with distinction in investigative medicine from Yale University under the mentorship of Harlan M. Krumholz, MD, focusing on postoperative recovery trajectories after cardiac surgery. His research integrates large-scale outcomes analysis, digital health tools, and artificial intelligence applications in surgery. He has published more than 160 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals and serves as an associate editor at the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Nationally recognized as an emerging leader in cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Mori has received the American Society for Clinical Investigation Emerging Generation Award.
