Lynn Peak hike consists of hiking to two peaks situated in the Lynn Headwaters regional park in North Vancouver. Those two peaks are the south Lynn peak and the Lynn peak. This hike is a total of 11.6-km out-and-back trail near North Vancouver, British Columbia. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 5 h 36 min to complete. There is a nice viewpoint at the south Lynn peak and not on the Lynn peak. So, most of the people hike up to the South Lynn peak and head back from there. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and snowshoeing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
Here is the summary of the Hike:
Total round trip distance: 9 KMs until South Lynn Peak
Total hiking time: 4 Hours
Elevation Gain: 800 meters or 2626 feet
Dogs allowed: Yes
Viewpoints: Two viewpoints
Here are the timestamps
00:00 Lynn Hike preview
00:12 Free parking at Lynn headwaters
Though there is a parking fee if you park near the Lynn headwaters but you can avoid the parking fee if you park 500 meters before the Lynn headwaters. You can clearly see the parking fee and non-parking fee area.
00:34 Hike starts
After you cross Lynn creek near Lynn headwaters park, the trail follows the Lynn loop trail for the first 1.2Km. This part of the trail is easy. After 1.2Km, there is a fork for the Lynn peak and the steep portion starts from there.
01:25 Lynn Peak trail fork
After 1.2Km, you will see the Lynn peak trail fork. From the fork, the trail gets steeper and continues to be steep throughout and almost until the peak. Though there are some small sections where the trail gets flat, but, for most of the part, the trail continues to be steep. The trail is full of tree roots, dead trees, fallen trees, rocks, boulders, etc. There is not much vegetation on the ground and the forest looks dried up but the hike continues to be under the canopy and shade.
07:23 Mt Fromme viewpoint
Just 10 minutes before the south peak, you will come across a viewpoint from where you can clearly see mount Fromme across the Lynn valley. The view is not panoramic but enough to sit and enjoy the valley, trees, and mount Fromme view from the viewpoint.
08:19 South Lynn Peak Viewpoint
After 10 to 15 minutes from the previous viewpoint, you will arrive at the South Lynn peak viewpoint. This viewpoint offers more views and you can see the Fraser valley and other nearby peaks such as Mount Seymour, Burnaby mountain, Brentwood high rise building, Metrotown, ironworkers bridge, Burnaby, downtown Vancouver, SFU sitting on the top of the mountain, Surrey, and new West buildings, etc.
We decided to return from the South Lynn peak because we did not see any point in going to the Lynn peak which offers no views. Lynn peak is another 1.4 Km from the South Lynn peak with an almost flat trail. If you want to check Lynn Peak off your list, feel free to continue. It will add another 45 minutes to the total hiking time.
