Tours is a charming French city situated between the banks of the Loire and Cher rivers. It is often considered the gateway to the Loire Valley, and it has plenty to offer for tourists. From Gothic architecture to café-lined squares, manicured gardens, and a Parisian atmosphere without the crowds, this university town has it all.
You can reach Tours in just two hours by train from Paris. Upon arriving at the train station, you can explore the city on foot, as it is pretty walkable with plenty of shops and eateries to discover. It is definitely worth taking a day trip from Paris to visit this beautiful city.
Tours has a rich history and was once a Gallic-Roman settlement. Today, it is a university town and a traditional gateway for exploring the chateaux of the Loire Valley region, which is home to many stunning castles. One of the major landmarks in Tours is the Saint-Gatien Cathedral, which boasts a flamboyant Gothic facade flanked by towers with 12th-century bases and Renaissance tops.
