No you don't need to spend a fortune on a kit to do this - and if you have a CM model, the Brother kit isn't for you anyway. You probably have most of what you need already. Save a fortune and still get the look you love - and there is another hack in here too!

Everyone is welcome to have an opinion. However, regardless of what I think, those with CM machines can't use the kit anyway. Not everyone can afford it either, so this is an alternative which is good enough for most people. Maybe some people will try this and then buy the kit because they like the effect and want to use it all the time, that's fine too. There are however, many, like me, who have bought accessories before and found they don't use them enough to warrant the expenditure. The 'dashed Vs Dots' is pretty much a moot point if you like the effect it gives, and I've done the 'dots' in the past with another machine. If the dashes are small enough and they are, certainly if you are using SCAL, you'd need to have super sight to see much of a difference. You also get to choose the size of the tip you use beyond just two. As for the other mat being a different material. since the foam works, it isn't a problem.

EXTRA INFO If using SCAL for Brother machine, dashes need to be set to a size 3 with whatever gaps you want - but export to FCM or it won't like it when you send to the cutter, but if you have to go through Canvas, you may as well change to the dots there after importing the lines as solid.
