Pinch valves are a popular silo inlet control on many sites because they are a cheap option with low levels of wear. However, pinch valves are a poor choice for safety. In this video, we look at why this is the case, and what alternatives are available.
Subjecting a cement silo to overpressure or overfilling during a road tanker fill can lead to a delivery explosion or the silo bursting. A blocked pressure relief valve (PRV) causes over-pressurisation, as does an uncontrolled tanker discharge. Using an intelligent safety system will control this risk and prevent danger to site personnel.
