The Transform tool in Lightroom Classic is a powerful feature designed to correct perspective distortions such as those caused by wide-angle lenses or shooting at an angle. It can also be used creatively to alter the perspective of your images for a unique effect.

Understanding the Transform Tool

The Transform panel is divided into two sections: Upright and Manual. The Upright section has automatic and guided options, while the Manual section lets you manually adjust the image.

1. Upright Options: These are Auto, Level, Vertical, and Full. 'Auto' automatically applies balanced level and perspective corrections. 'Level' only adjusts for leveling. 'Vertical' applies level and vertical perspective corrections, and 'Full' applies level, horizontal, and vertical corrections.

2. Manual Options: These include Vertical, Horizontal, Rotate, Aspect, Scale, and X/Y Offset. 'Vertical' and 'Horizontal' adjust perspective distortion along these axes. 'Rotate' rotates the image around its center point. 'Aspect' changes the aspect ratio without distortion. 'Scale' changes the image size without distortion, and 'X/Y Offset' moves the image within the canvas.

Using the Transform Tool

1. Open the Develop module in Lightroom Classic and locate the Transform panel on the right side.

2. Choose one of the Upright modes or click on 'Off' to manually control the transformation.

3. If you choose manual control, use the sliders to adjust the image. For example, if a building appears to be leaning backwards, use the 'Vertical' slider to correct it.

4. 'Rotate' can be used to straighten a crooked photo. Sliding to the right rotates the image clockwise, and to the left, counterclockwise.

5. Use 'Aspect' to stretch or squash the image. This is useful for correcting distortion caused by certain lenses.

6. The 'Scale' slider zooms in or out on the image. This can be useful if the Transform adjustments have left white space around the edges of your photo.

7. 'X Offset' and 'Y Offset' sliders allow you to reposition your image within the frame. This can be handy for final composition tweaks after other transformations.
