A grieving family in San Jose, California is suing a local funeral home after a shocking mix‑up in handling their son’s remains. According to a lawsuit and news reports, when the father went to collect his late son Alexander Pinon’s clothing from the funeral director, he was handed a bag he assumed contained clothes — but once home, he discovered it contained his son’s brain instead.
The family had paid more than $10,000 for a full‑service memorial package and requested that Alex be dressed in nicer clothes and that his original clothing be returned to them. Their attorney, Samer Habbas, says the father unknowingly put the bag into his washing machine before realizing its contents.
After returning the bag to the funeral home, a whistleblower later confirmed it indeed held Alex’s brain. The lawsuit alleges that the brain was then stored improperly — reportedly left in a box outside at the funeral chapel for over two months — before an employee noticed the smell.
The family continues to pursue legal action as they seek accountability and a plan to reunite the remains.
