German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has been celebrating the successful launch of the new European currency with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar.
The German President interrupted his holiday in Marbella for a Monday-night dinner with the Spanish premier.
Monday was a special day in Europe; the birth of the single currency holding the attention of the entire continent.
And as eleven countries saw their currencies absorbed into the euro, two of their leaders celebrated the new era with dinner in a seaside restaurant.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder gave up his place by the pool in the Spanish holiday resort of Marbella to meet his Spanish counterpart Jose Maria Aznar for a meal with their wives.
The introduction of the euro, and optimism over the economy has given Aznar a boost in the polls, making him more popular than ever in Spain.
