Our orchestral tutor, Joseph Conyers (Philadelphia Orchestra), chats to Geoff Chalmers about audition nerves, how to overcome them, and when to start practising orchestral excerpts.

Auditions can be scary and it's tricky not to let your nerves affect your playing or your sound. So, if you're struggling to get that practice room sound out of the practice room, Joseph might be able to help! He tells us about his first audition experience (which wasn't perfect!) and how that helped him approach his next auditions with a new mindset. Plus, Joseph's been on both sides of the audition table, so he has great insight into the world of auditioning.

At the end of the interview, Joseph performs a snippet of one of the excerpts he teaches in his online course, Orchestra Chops Vol. 1: Wagner, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Overture (mm. 158-191).
