The 44,000 tonne ‘indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC)’ is being made at the state-owned Cochin shipyard at Kochi, Kerala .The aircraft carrier, which cost around Rs 23,000 crore to construct, will be tested using Russian MiG 29K jets that will take off and land on its deck. The warship will also have a fleet of Ka-31 helicopters ,,The aircraft carrier will have a length of 262 metres and a width of 62 metres, and it will be able to carry up to 30 fighter jets and helicopters

The INS Vikramaditya is India's only aircraft carrier. According to the Cabinet Committee on Security's approval, the Vikrant was supposed to join the fleet in December 2018, but it has been delayed. The keel was laid in 2009, and the ship was launched into the water in 2013. The key was the integration of the aviation complex on board and its connection to other sensors.
The 65,000-tonne Liaoning, which Beijing purchased from Russia, refurbished, and commissioned in 2012, is China's first carrier. Due to the delay, India has operated at least one aircraft carrier since 1961.
