If you have a previous gen SLX M7000 drivetrain and you want better range, you can do these 2 modifications to successfully increase your range without actually changing your whole drivetain or impacting negatively your shifting.
Components used in the video:
Shimano SLX M7000 crankset
Shimano SLX M7000 32T chainring
Shimano SLX M7000 I-Spec II shifter
Shimano SLX M7000 chain
Shimano SLX M7100 51T derailleur
Shimano Deore M5100 11-51T cassette
Back in the day when I got my SLX 1x11 drivetrain, there were no options in Shimano to go further 11-46 on the cassette side, and honestly the spread of that cassette wasn't something pretty either. I tried a SunRace 11-50 cassette, but the shifting quality was never good compared to Shimano components.
Then Shimano released SLX and Deore new lineups, and I found a realiable solution to upgrade the range of my drivetrain without having to change the whole drivetrain. The new SLX derailleur works perfectly with the previous gen 11 speed drivetrain, and the new Deore 11 speed cassette perfectly matches the previous gen as well. The chain is virtually the same between the new Deore 11 speed and SLX 11 speed, so there is no need on switching anything else: the rear derailleur is meant for the extra range, and the cassette is meant to work with derailleurs of such range.
The cable pull of the shifter matched perfectly, gears are indexed and work correctly. The only minor thing is the upshifting is somewhat lazy in sometimes with lower cadences when moving from 51T to 45T cog, but is something really minor and maybe something I can even work out with better gear indexing and adjusting.
