Winter Storm Fern left several inches of ice and snow across our area, which quickly turned into “snow-crete” as bitterly cold temperatures lingered for days after the storm passed. Schools were eventually closed the week of Jan. 26-30, but families still needed food.
On Wednesday night Jan. 28, we got the call: could LEF’s Fueled program mobilize emergency food support by Friday? We had a warehouse full of food. We just needed a plan and a community ready to step up.
In less than two hours, high school students, retired teachers, and dedicated volunteers answered the call, packing more than 1,000 meal kits. Loudoun County Public Schools box trucks then delivered the food to five regional sites, with two pallets sent to each school location.
By Friday morning, meal kits and bags of hearty snacks were ready for families to pick up from Cool Spring Elementary, Leesburg Elementary, Sugarland Elementary, Dominion Trail Elementary and Park View High School.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, stepped in, and supported our community when it mattered most.
