• What happened in the match
On paper, the roles are clear: Sid is the monster heel challenger, Shawn is the babyface champion. In reality? MSG has other ideas.
The early moments are surprisingly even, but the crowd lights up every time Sid hints at a powerbomb. Michaels targets the leg with a chop block and a Figure Four, but Sid shrugs it off and immediately starts brutalizing Shawn—sending his shoulder into the ring post, launching him into the apron, and dropping him throat-first on the guardrail.
Sid dominates with clotheslines, corner kicks, and heavy slams. Shawn’s bumping is wild—borderline cartoonish—but it sells the size difference perfectly. One leap off the ropes ends with Sid’s boot smashing him mid-air, and Michaels crumples like he’s been folded in half.
The crowd loses it when Sid blocks Sweet Chin Music and plants Michaels with a one-armed chokeslam—a monster pop that tells you everything about where the audience’s heart is. Sid stalks the powerbomb, but takes too long, allowing Shawn to sneak a small package. Close calls follow, but Sid keeps overpowering him.
Then it gets messy—in the best way.
Sid grabs a ringside camera and smashes José Lothario with it while referee Earl Hebner conveniently looks the other way. Shawn retaliates with Sweet Chin Music, but instead of covering, he leaves the ring to check on Jose. Chaos spirals: Hebner gets wiped out, Sid cracks Shawn in the back with the camera, and the crowd cheers.
Sid rolls Michaels back in, lifts him up, and finally hits the powerbomb. A groggy Hebner crawls into position.

• How it hit you two emotionally
This one hits us like wrestling crowds reclaiming their power. Sitting together now, it’s impossible not to notice how loudly MSG chooses Sid. Michaels is the champion, the icon, the showman—but the building wants the monster. The finish is messy, overbooked, and perfect for the moment. It feels like the audience forcing WWF’s hand in real time.
