The Disability Disaster Access and Resources (DDAR) program is California’s only disability-led emergency readiness network. It provides personalized disaster planning, backup batteries for medical devices, hotel stays, transportation, and wellness checks for people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs.
Right now, DDAR’s funding is being cut, leaving thousands of Californians vulnerable during Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) and disasters. Last year, during catastrophic fires and multi-week power outages, DDAR helped hundreds of people stay safe, proving that this program is a lifeline, not a luxury.
How You Can Help:
Systems Change Advocates statewide are collecting impact stories to submit to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Share your story and show decision-makers that accessibility saves lives.
Find your nearest Independent Living Center to connect with a Systems Change Advocate and submit your story.
