The task in the process was to transform into whatever came to mind, guided by your inner feelings. The birds on the burning tree were the starting point for everything that followed. Not to imitate roles—but to experience them, to live them. React quickly.
"Not long ago I dreamed
of tiny black, flickering birds—
nervous sparks alive on the branches of a tree.
It would have meant so little,
if the tree itself were not aflame—
burning with a bright, celebratory fire,
untamed, unrestrained,
and yet not cruel.
How good it felt
to dance as birds within that fire.
And then I thought—
perhaps even while awake
we can remain those birds,
dancing on a burning tree.
A dream, a fantasy, and its touch upon reality. First only on a psychological level, then a creative one — and then action. Dance.
You enter the rehearsal room: improvisation here and there, but NOT nonsense. Because this dream exists and has existed.
This material is the result of the desire to dance, the result of trust in a performance partner, the result of future ideas being embodied in real time and being".
