Paul Di'Anno (born May 17, 1958) is a British heavy metal singer best known as the original lead vocalist of Iron Maiden. He fronted the band from 1978 to 1981, recording their first two albums:
Iron Maiden (1980) – Featuring classics like Phantom of the Opera and Running Free.
Killers (1981) – A raw, aggressive follow-up with tracks like Wrathchild and Murders in the Rue Morgue.
Di’Anno’s rough, punk-influenced vocal style helped define Iron Maiden’s early sound, but he was dismissed due to personal issues and struggles with substance abuse.
After Iron Maiden, he pursued a varied solo career, forming and fronting bands such as Di’Anno, Battlezone, and Killers, exploring heavy metal, hard rock, and punk influences. Despite never regaining Iron Maiden-level fame, he remains a cult figure in heavy metal history.
In recent years, health issues have affected his mobility, but he continues to perform when possible
Paul Di'Anno, passed away on October 21, 2024, at the age of 66. His death was attributed to a tear in the sac surrounding his heart, leading to a fatal cardiac event.
His legacy remains strong as an essential part of Iron Maiden’s early years and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
