Make a flat spine hardcover book (case-in binding) | sketchbook ASMR ✿

Описание: I’ve been working on a project to develop and create bookbinding kits, since a lot of people have been requesting them. I decided to start with hardcover flat spine (case-in) binding first, and later I’ll move on to Coptic stitch binding.

For this 2nd attempt, I made it with Arches text-woven with two sheets per signature. It gives a nicer tension to the spine than watercolour papers, for this kind of textured paper. It's perfect for both text and sketch, and is pocket-sized.

In this video, we will enjoy the process and results of my second attempt. There are some mistakes I made during the process after I didn’t get a chance to make a case-in-book for three months. I will point it out in the video while you are watching. It may not be the most perfect book, but the results and things I learned while making the book are worth much more than that. Overall, I think the book turned out pretty cute. I love the size and think that this woven paper is perfect for most people, and serve to wider purpose. So that you can REALLY use the book or send it out as a handmade gift.

The nature of case binding doesn’t allow the signatures to lie completely flat, as Coptic stitch binding does; the structure naturally feels different — but that’s the beauty of it. Each book has its own unique character, as I mentioned before.
I’m happy with the overall result, and I’ll keep binding and learning as I go.
