"Anyway, I am here, ladies and gentlemen, because I am obviously not radical enough to be denied a visa. It used to be rock stars, not religious leaders that (sic) caused controversy. But now that I think about it, there is only one rock star in this room, sitting right in front of me. And you don't wear the sunglasses at night, you don't throw the televisions out the window, you've never had a mullet ... it's a very obscure, bad hair ... But at 80- years-old, you are more punk rock than anyone I know."

"If our people had repudiated me, if those of you in the outside world had not supported us, I would have been nil. And so, you are as much a part of these celebrations in a very real and organic way, and I wish I could open my heart and you had the medical skills that would be able to say: "Ah, yes, there we see". I just want to say thank you, thank you."

STORYLINE
BONO PAYS TRIBUTE TO TUTU
As part of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu's 80th birthday celebrations, the good and the great gathered in St. George's cathedral in Cape Town on Thursday (06 OCT11) to see the launch of a new book about Tutu.
Paying tribute to the archbishop was recording artist and pop star Bono who, in his address to the congregation, likened the religious leader to a rockstar.
"You don't wear the sunglasses at night, you don't throw the televisions out the window, you've never had a mullet ... it's bad hair ... But at 80- years-old, you are more punk rock than anyone I know," said Bono.
The U2 frontman followed his speech by serenading Tutu with a rendition of the groups hit record, "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."
"Tutu: The Authorized Portrait," is a book of photographs, tributes and biography.
