Nel già bramoso petto,
quel volto sdegnosetto,
lasciato ha un non so che,
quest’ alma ov’ ei non è,
langue d’affanno.

Veder mi parve in quelle,
amorosette stelle,
un guardo lusinghier,
ma senza inganno.

English translation:
This proud face has left I know not what
in my languishing breast;
My soul will suffer the pains
of unrequited love
if I cannot be close to her.

It seemed to me I saw,
in those loving little stars (her eyes),
a beguiling glance,
but one without deceit.

Personal story: When I got the call to step in for the lead role of Achille because the main singer had fallen ill, I opened the score and the first aria I saw was “Nel già bramoso petto”, the aria featured on this video. I instantly fell in love with the music. Seeing “trill, trill, trill” marked throughout the score, I knew right away—this music was made for me!
