The Tawang Marathon 3.0 was successfully conducted today in Tawang, perched at nearly 10,000 feet above sea level. The high-altitude marathon witnessed participation from 6,524 runners, including 1,200 women and three international athletes from Kenya, across four categories — 42 km (Full Marathon), 21 km (Half Marathon), 10 km, and 5 km runs.
The event was flagged off by Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the large turnout and highlighted the importance of such events in promoting fitness, adventure, and national integration in the Himalayan region.
Runners navigated challenging terrain and high-altitude conditions, demonstrating stamina, perseverance, and endurance. The marathon route offered views of snow-capped peaks and the Tawang Monastery, one of Asia’s largest Buddhist monasteries.
The marathon also witnessed enthusiastic participation from civilians, students, local residents, and security forces including the Indian Army, SSB, and ITBP. The event was widely regarded as a successful celebration of health, community engagement, and Himalayan spirit.
