I have been in Talent Acquisition since 2015, in that time I have worked for both agencies, outsource, out staff, and product companies. At the same time, I have worked on different markets like Information Technology (Engineering), and Hospitality (Hotels and Restaurants), and regions like North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
I think it's time to share some of my observations as to what are the "Pros" and "Cons" of working as a Talent Acquisition Specialist or a Recruiter.
There are a lot of "Pros" and "Cons", but I wanted to focus on just a few most important ones that can be of help to you if you are considering a career in Talent Acquisition.
Let's start from "Pros":
1. Hiring people in jobs where they will be happy and successful
2. Meeting new people (All the time)
3. Being a driver of the company success
4. You never know what to expect
5. Representing your company (Face of the company)
I spoke about each of these "Pros" in detail during the video. I think that these five things are some of the most exciting parts of the job that you would be doing as a Talent Acquisition Specialist or a Recruiter.
The second part of this video is about "Cons". Whatever your job is some parts are not pleasant, that you don't like that you would consider as a "Cons". Here are some of my examples:
1. You are talking with people the whole day
2. Working Hours
3. Deadlines
4. Dealing with reoccurring problems
Each of these "Cons" is something that has affected me in some way or another over the past 6 years. Whether that being different time zones and I had to work outside of regular working hours or dealing with impossible deadlines that I call "Yesterday".
All of these "Pros" and "Cons" will influence your decision on whether you should start your career as a Recruiter or Talent Acquisition Specialist.
The important thing to understand before you even considering starting is this for you?!
Many people think that Recruitment and Talent Acquisition is easy and they just need to hire people, but the reality is different and much harder. Make sure that you do your research before you choose a career that you might work in for the rest of your life.
