Handsome Polly-O / Pretty Peggy-O / Molly-O / Bonnie Barbara-O / Bonnie Lass O' Fyvie-O / Fennario / Pretty Peggy of Derby (Roud No. 545) - Sung by Charles Scott Brink near Smicksburg, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Recorded by Samuel P. Bayard on August 12, 1948.
Song transcription:
Come down the stairs, Pretty Peggy-o,
Come down the stairs, Pretty Peggy-o,
She came tripping down the stairs,
Combing back her yellow hair,
Takes the last farewell of her mammy-o.
(It is not the soldier that's speaking to you,
It is not the soldier that's talking to you,) *
Oh what would your mammy think,
If she'd hear the guineas chink,
And the soldiers marching before you-ile?
That part is surely wrong, but I can't quite make out the words of these two lines.
