Today is a heartbreaking day for the Colorado family.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on March 1, 2026, on Baseline Road near Newland Court in Boulder County.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old quarterback Dominiq A. Ponder, a member of the Colorado Buffaloes football.

Preliminary reports indicate the 2023 Tesla Model 3 was traveling westbound when it lost control on a right-hand curve, crossed into the eastbound lane, struck a guardrail, then an electrical pole before rolling down an embankment and catching fire. He was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities state that speed is suspected as a contributing factor. The Vehicular Crimes Unit is currently leading the investigation.
