Split Rock Trail in MawsiangJroi of Meghalaya is a striking natural geological formation where a huge boulder-like rock has been split vertically, creating a deep cleft or passage you can walk through. It’s believed that this dramatic split was caused by the powerful Assam earthquake of 1897.
It’s unique offbeat attraction for nature lovers and photographers. The narrow rock gap looks especially impressive from both the top and inside. It’s often combined with other adventure and nature activities in the area like river canyoning, kayaking, and fossil walks.
A moderate 1–2 hour hike through jungle rocky paths. In some sections you may climb down via bamboo ladders or rugged rocks into the split and even explore a narrow cave-like passage.
