Today we’re going to do a quick overview of Sinterit’s TPE Flexible material – another SLS powder bed fusion material, for use on their LISA and NILS SLS 3D Printers. TPE is really meant for functional parts and prototypes – pumps, bellows, baskets and other items that need to be elastic, and still need to survive in challenging environments. It’s elastic (with a HUGE elongation metric), durable, dense, and capable of being sealed - after you seal it, it’s watertight and airtight. It’s also got an awesome refresh rate, at only 10% – meaning, you can take the old powder, add 10% new powder, and then re-use it all in the next build.
WHERE YOU’LL SEE THIS MATERIAL IN INDUSTRIES?
Some of the major applications we’re seeing is actually medical industry prints – pre-surgery and training parts, mockups and models, etc.
shoes/insoles parts (thanks to it’s wear resistance)
watertight/airtight items
gaskets
skin-touch applications like clothing and fashion
hoses and tubes – it’s water/air tight,
shock absorbers
WHAT KIND OF MACHINE DO YOU NEED TO PRINT THIS FILAMENT?
TPE can be printed on the entire Lisa lineup, and the NILS480 as well. It does require the advanced Studio Software to slice parts, unlike Flexa Grey and PA12.
BASIC MATERIAL SPECS:
One unique feature of this material is that it can be made water/air tight, and the final products can be skin-touch certified.
Shore hardness type A scale: 90, somewhere between a shoe heel and shopping cart wheel…
Melting point: 190°C, the highest of the flexibles
Softening point of 75ºC
Tensile Strength: 6.0 [MPa] – it’s definitely not rigid!
Elongation at break: 196%

It is considered one of the best SLS 3D printers in the market and competes with several other leading brands such as Sintratec, Formlabs, Sharebot, Farsoon e-form, XYZ MFGpro236, Prodways Promaker P1000, 3D Systems, and EOS. The Sinterit Lisa X provides high-resolution prints, excellent surface quality, and is easy to use. It has a compact size, to easily fit in any office space, and is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses. The printer competes with other high-end models such as Sintratec kit, Sintratec S2, Sintratec S3, Fuse 1, Fuse 1+, Wematter ProX SLS 6100, 3D Systems SLS 380, Feplus3d, EOS Formiga, Nexa3D, QLS 820, Sindoh S100, Natural Robotics, Red Rock 3D, and many others. Its unique features such as high-rate powder recycling and a galvo laser system give it an edge over its competitors. Overall, the Sinterit Lisa X is a top contender in the SLS 3D printing industry and is well-suited for a variety of applications, from prototyping to production.
SLS 3D printing has emerged as a popular technology for producing complex geometries and functional prototypes. When it comes to materials for SLS 3D printing, there are several options available. Nylon is the most commonly used material, and it comes in various forms such as nylon 12, nylon 11, and nylon 6. Other popular materials include TPU, polycarbonate, and PEEK. Each material has its unique properties, and it is important to choose the right material for your application. Additionally, material handling and storage play a significant role in maintaining the quality of the printed parts. Some of the leading manufacturers of SLS 3D printing materials include 3D Systems, EOS, BASF, Arkema, and DSM. With advancements in technology, the range of materials available for SLS 3D printing continues to expand, providing more options for users to achieve their desired outcomes.
