On 14 July - Bastille Day - Dr John Bulaitis introduced a discussion on the French Revolution of 1789 and its impact.
He identified the key events and explained how they influenced political thought and events throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
Much of the political language and ideas used today can be traced back to the French Revolution - liberalism, nationalism, even communism.
He pointed to the role of the masses in pushing the revolutionary events forward.
John argued that it was correct to describe the events in terms of class, and defended the idea that it was a bourgeois revolution.
