Today I review the "most-premium" knife of the five, and the final knife in (smalls) Box 2 of the Challenge, the Rough Ryder Reserve model RRR051, the Tobacco Brown Smooth Bone 4-Bladed Congress (with D2 tool steel blades). The RRR line of knives is a "premium" line ... better/heavier construction, premium styling and fit.and.finish, and attention to the 'details'. This knife belongs in this series ... even though it is on the extreme low-range of the typical $35-75 price range for the RRR collection ... just $30.

The features include 4 blades of D2 steel: 2 pen-blade spear points at 1.75" long with match-strike nail nicks and swedges, 1 primary spear point at 2.25" long with similar nick & swedge, and a final primary warncliff blade at 2.25" long with nick and swedge. Beautifully-dyed bone scales are 3-pin fastened to the brass liners and steel frame. The knife has nickel-silver, double-fluted/threaded bolsters and a nickel-silver 'bomb'-shaped shield. As, I believe, the "history" of the congress pattern to be ... the blades are designed from .06" blade stock, and offsets are ground/set between the blade edges and kicks so that ... all four blades can "nest" together, with minimal or no blade-rub ... together, IN CONGRESS (conjuction) at the center of the frame. All current U.S. political environment jokes aside ... getting 4 blades "to meet in the middle" requires special attention to manufacturing process control and quality. If one desires a unique pattern, with multiple blades, the RRR051 meets these requirements ... and results in a "better" knife, deserving of the RRR brand/label.
