'Gala Concert from Prague' is a recording by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Václav Neumann.
It features works by Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček, Fibich, Martinů and several other well known composers.
The Lachian Dances was the first mature work by the Czech composer Leoš Janáček (1854-1928).
He was inspired by Moravian and other Slavic folk music to create an original, modern musical style.
Originally titled Wallachian Dances after the Moravian Wallachia region, Janáček later changed the title when the region's name also changed, since it reflects folk songs from that specific area.
Janáček began to compose the first set of instrumental arrangements of folk dances in 1888. The first performance took place on 11 January 1889 in Olomouc.
This performance features No,2 The Blessed One and No.6 The Saw Dance.
This Supraphon recording is from 1991.
