Sony A7RII A7R II M2 VS A7S (Both shot in 4K)
This is the Sony A7R Mark II VS A7S 4K Video Test. I shot both cameras in 4K. A7RII was shooting internally 4K and the A7S was capturing 4K from the Atomos Shogun. First of all, this comparison video was one of the hardest video I have ever done. Before I went out and shoot, I thought having the same brand is easy. But I ended up so much trouble shooting the video. I had to re-shoot the test more than three times. First, sensor. Both cameras featuring full frame 4K sensor. But A7RII shoots better video in Super 35 mode. Cos Super 35 mode has the full pixel read out from the sensor, plus you get less noise from (42 Megapixel Full Frame) down to (18 Megapixel APS-C). But for the A7S, it shoots better in Full frame mode. So I had to get a SpeedBooster on the A7RII and get the same field of view. Second, different ISO in S-Log 2!! Since A7S is having minimum ISO of 3200 on S-Log 2, so I had to get the A7RII at 3200 also. To be honest, A7RII gets better image from ISO800 I reckon. But to be fair, I had to match the ISO to complete this test. Third, White Balance!! For some reason, both cameras having different color temperature even both cameras were set to the “Outdoor”, the A7S gets slightly warmer image. So I had to spend extra time to match the color in post (Not a big deal for this one actually). In the result, both cameras looked very identical. But I would say A7RII is little bit better when doing run and gun shoot. Also the ISO 800 for the S-Log 2 is pretty handy.
