Presenting an excerpt from the Maathey Daru Varnam composed by Sri Harikeshanallur Muthaiyah Bhagavathar in Kamas ragam, Adi Taalam. This Varnam sings the praise of Goddess Meenakshi, as the universal mother.
The lyrics describe various characteristics of the Goddess. In the excerpt shown here, the choreography highlights different interpretations of the term Shyaame - the dark hued one. The depictions include parallels drawn to natural dark hues of crows, rain bearing clouds, hair and ashes.
This piece has been choreographed by Smt Saradha Sethuraman and presented by Gladys Felicia.
