The 40 Mukte (Chali Mukte) were forty Sikh warriors who once left Guru Gobind Singh Ji during a time of extreme hardship but later realized their mistake. Filled with remorse and renewed faith, they returned to stand with their Guru and confront the pursuing Mughal army at Khidrana in 1705.
The 40 Mukte (Chali Mukte) are 40 Sikh warriors who famously recanted their desertion of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, returned to fight the pursuing Mughal army at Khidrana in 1705, and achieved martyrdom, earning liberation (mukti) and making the site Muktsar (Pool of Liberation); led by Mai Bhago, their sacrifice is commemorated annually at the Maghi Mela
Led by the fearless warrior Mai Bhago, these Sikhs fought bravely against overwhelming odds. Although all forty attained martyrdom, their sacrifice was accepted by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who tore their letter of renunciation and granted them Mukti (spiritual liberation). From that moment, the place came to be known as Muktsar Sahib — the Pool of Liberation.
Their supreme sacrifice and unwavering courage are remembered every year during the sacred Maghi Mela, inspiring generations of Sikhs with the message of repentance, courage, and devotion.
This video explores the powerful story of the 40 Mukte, the leadership of Mai Bhago, and the historical significance of the Battle of Khidrana, reminding us that redemption is always possible through faith and action.
