Описание: A major industrial tragedy has unfolded in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district, where the death toll from an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing and export facility has risen to five. According to the Health Minister's Office, 74 people were affected by the leak, with 67 still undergoing treatment and medical observation.
The incident occurred during routine operations on June 21, triggering a large-scale emergency response involving police, fire services, health officials and district authorities. Victims reportedly suffered breathing difficulties, eye irritation, coughing and respiratory distress after being exposed to ammonia gas.
As political parties demand a discussion on industrial safety in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Chief Minister Vijay has announced ₹2 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ordered a high-level probe. A three-member committee has been tasked with investigating the cause of the leak and submitting a report within days.
